Blog 9: Changes to My Study Program

Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk about some things that I think could be changed in the dance career.

I think that at the moment, the biggest problem in the dance career is the lack of resources. We have a new curriculum that is very complete and seems spectacular, but in practice, this curriculum doesn’t work in the most appropriate way since we don’t have the necessary architecture for it to be carried out.

The Faculty of Arts is one of the most precarious spaces of the University of Chile. Just as art in Chile is devalued and without resources, in our university it happens in the same way.

I think that before thinking about changes for the dance career, the university has to commit financially to our faculty, since it is useless to generate changes in the careers if we don’t even have enough classrooms for the courses to have their classes

Another thing that I think could change or at least think again, is the number of hours of classes per week. In the dance career, most of the courses enter classes at 8:30 am and leave between 6 - 7:30 pm. In addition to this, in all subjects we have to study and do homeworks outside of class hours, so it is very difficult to carry out other activities while we study, such as working.

I think I always sound angry when I write blogs, I'm sorry for that, but many of the topics we talk about remind me that this capitalist country doesn’t care about arts and education.

  2. I just can say to you that on the bigger capitalist country, United States, they actually are very careful with the arts! Only happens in Chile :)

  4. Exact! There is a lack of greater financial commitment from the university to support future artists.
