Blog 10: English Language Challenges

Imagen
Hello! Today is my last blog, and in this case I'm going to talk about my process learning English. The truth is that my experience learning English at university has been quite short. When I took the test, I stayed in English 3 and I took this subject during 2019. I felt that in 2019, English 3 was carried out a bit dispersed, and I don't know if I really managed to advance in my level of English that year. This year, although the class period has been shorter, I think I have had a significant advance in terms of vocabulary, since we have had a lot of oral and written practice. I think that doing the videotalks and blogging everyday has helped me to maintain a constant practice, and to speak more fluently. I think that in general I have a good grammatical base in English, although there are some verb tenses that confuse me. What I will do is keep practicing to be able to speak without stumbling, and keep watching series and movies in English, which I think is what has helped ...

Blog 9: Changes to My Study Program

Imagen
Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk about some things that I think could be changed in the dance career. I think that at the moment, the biggest problem in the dance career is the lack of resources. We have a new curriculum that is very complete and seems spectacular, but in practice, this curriculum doesn’t work in the most appropriate way since we don’t have the necessary architecture for it to be carried out. The Faculty of Arts is one of the most precarious spaces of the University of Chile. Just as art in Chile is devalued and without resources, in our university it happens in the same way. I think that before thinking about changes for the dance career, the university has to commit financially to our faculty, since it is useless to generate changes in the careers if we don’t even have enough classrooms for the courses to have their classes Another thing that I think could change or at least think again, is the number of hours of classes per week. In the dance career, most of ...

Blog 8: Personal Opinions

Imagen
Hello everyone! In today's blog, I have the possibility to give my opinion about a topic, so I’m going to talk about the social outbreak that began on October 18, 2019, and continues to this day but with much less force than before. The social outbreak began mainly as an uprising of the people against the neoliberal system that has governed us since the military dictatorship, and that generates extremely unequal conditions for those who live in this country.  In Chile, basic services that should be public and free are in the hands of private companies, so to access good education, health or pensions you must have a lot of money. This is because, in this country, governs a capitalist and neoliberal model that was forcibly established during the dictatorship, and not only by the military, also by groups such as the Chicago Boys or politicians like Jaime Guzman, who wrote the current constitution. And obviously, with the support and funding of the United States.  This is why peop...

Blog 7: An interesting hobby

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about what I do in my free time. I don’t know if i really have a hobby, because when i have free time, i usually use it to do things related to dance, but not in an academic way. I like to create my own choreographies, make videos and edit. In the last time, i have been very close to the audiovisual world, since my sister is a documentary director and my best friends are studying cinema. Before they studied cinema, they danced, and we had a crew in which we all danced together. Now that crew changed and became a video-dance collective called Acaxia. So, when i have free time i mostly use it to create new projects with my partners.  I will leave you here the link of what we have done so you can check! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK9CM4f6Wfvy-iBRrC-AxuQ During 2020, our projects were paused because of the pandemic. We tried to generate projects together but we couldn’t, so each one of us continued doing their own things. I have learn a lot...

Blog 6: Post Graduate Studies

Imagen
Hello, today i'm going to talk about the continuity of my studies after I graduate from my career. I think that an artist should always be studying and learning new things, so that's why, in parallel to my university career, I continue taking classes in other places and in other styles that help me train in what I want to do. On first, when I have graduated from college, I want to go to New York to take an intensive dance training program at the Broadway Dance Center, which is a very recognized studio in the whole world. Live in NY is very expensive, but i'm already collecting money for that trip, because maybe i'm going before i graduating.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6JseKtwnkc I would also like to do a master degree in gender studies, here or in Argentina -where my sister lives-. I know gender studies are not directly related to my career, but i'ts something that i'm very interested in studying. Finally, I would like to get a degree in pedagogy, beca...

Blog 5: My future job

Imagen
It’s hard for me to think what my future job will be. The truth is that there are no defined jobs for those who study dance or art in general, so, for me it would be ideal to live working on anything related to dance. That would already be a step, whatever the job is. When i started studying dance, i really wanted to work as a choreographer, directing works and projects related to dance. I really like creating, and lately i have developed my creative side in audiovisual dance-film projects. I would like very much, in the future, to work combining the audiovisual area with dance.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTm4vyQryJc Also, i would like to be a teacher. I think i would be very happy teaching dance to people who don’t  necessarily have a relationship with the arts. I really like to see what dance can generate in people who are not so connected with their body and its movement. I hope someday artists can work on what we study, and have a decent remuneration lik...

Blog 4: My favorite movie

Imagen
Hello! Today i’m going to talk about my favorite movie: Sieranevada. This is a Romanian film, directed by Cristi Puiu and released in 2016.  The story is about a family that gathers for lunch 40 days after the death of the father, to mourn together. In the meeting, all the problems that this family has, the conflicts because of differences of opinion, and the unresolved issues appear. The film is 3 hours long, so it makes you feel like you're living that situation too: the family chaos, the exhausting moments where you just want to leave that family meeting, and the funny moments in the middle of the chaos. Also, the camera moves on sequence shots, following the characters, so that makes the experience even more real, because you see the transit that the characters take around the house and the different conversations they have in each room.  Something that is very exasperating in the film is that they never sit at the table to eat, because new situations and discussions...

Blog 3: My favorite band

Imagen
At this point in my life i think i don’t  have a favorite band anymore, so i will talk about a band that was my favorite when i was a teenager, and that I still listening and loving: Radiohead.  When I was around 15 years old, I was looking for my identity, a way of being or a particular style with which to express myself in the world, so I started listening to alternative rock and that type of music, because i felt close to the feeling of those artists.  That’s when i started listening to Radiohead. At first i only listened to their first two albums: “Pablo Honey” and “The Bends”, since they were the most pop, melancholic and dramatic albums. I knew the song "Creep" by heart, which is a very sad and depressive song, and is also the most commercial song of them, that’s why they never played it again.  When i grew up, i started to listen the rest of their albums, and i understood how complex their music is. Radiohead has had an impressive musical evolution; they...

Blog 2: The best concert I've ever had

Imagen
Hello everyone, today i’m going to talk about a concert i went and in which i have a great time. On 2018, when Nathy Peluso came to Chile, she did a concert on the Blondie, and i went with my boyfriend and one friend of both. Even if it isn't the most spectacular concert i have gone, i have very good memories of that day because we had an incredible time.  Nathy Peluso is an Argentine singer, whom I admire a lot for her power, her music and her performance. The show in Chile didn’t have such an elaborate staging, but the way she stood on the stage, with her incredible movements and the force with which she sang, turned the show into an amazing performance. The show was quite long, we really enjoyed it from beginning to end. We sang and danced, and all the rest of the audience was also dancing, so the atmosphere was very fun.  After the concert, we stayed at the blondie's party, where we had a great time too.

Blog 1: A country I would like to visit

Imagen
Hello everyone, today i`m going to talk about a country that i would like to visit. I would really like to visit Cuba, because i'm interesting in the public education system they have. The art schools in Cuba are all free and internationally recognized for their excellence. The state of Cuba takes full charge of the financing of their education, and that is something i admire, because i believe that education should be a world right, which everyone can access.  Also, i would like to know the old house of my grandfather, who lived in Cuba during the 80's. He lived there because he invented a material based on recycled garbage, which is used to build houses or household objects, and he gave the license of that material to the government of Cuba, so he went to live there to implement it.  In this moment of my live, i'm thinking on traveling to stay for a while studyng in that place, and not only for vacations, that's why i'm so interesting on Cuba.       ...
